A big blow for Bafana Bafana hours after their coach said countries like Zimbabwe without stadiums should be banned.

The match turned out to be one to forget for Hugo Broos’ men as they went down 2-0 at the Huye Stadium.

Rwanda scored goals through Innocent Nshuti (12th minute) and Gilbert Mugisha (28th minute).

Bafana Bafana are ranked 12th in Africa and 64th in the world in the latest FIFA rankings.

Rwanda are 28th in Africa and 140th in the world.

Bafana Bafana were coming off a 2-1 victory over Benin in their opening match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium last Saturday.

South Africa have been drawn alongside Benin, Lesotho, Nigeria, Rwanda and Zimbabwe in Group C.

Bafana Bafana are currently second place in Group C with Rwanda in top spot.

 

Teams have been drawn into nine groups of six teams and will play home-and-away round robin matches between November 2023 and October 2025.

The winners of each group will qualify directly to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while and the four best group runners-up will advance to a playoff to determine which team will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs.

Bafana Bafana will next be in action in World Cup qualification against Nigeria in June 2024.
