Many of you might not know or recognize Daniel Chingoma, but he is the man who is known for making a helicopter named the “Zimcopter” way back in 2003.
Unfortunately, the Zimcopter was barred from flying but Chingoma himself claims that the helicopter flew from the ground, although he had no documentation to prove and approve it with the Aviation industry.
The Zimcopter was built from scrap metal and a car engine, a Lexus V8 engine. It also had side mirrors from a Toyota Hilux bakkie and a Tobacco thermometer in the Cockpit.
Six years later in 2009, Chingoma built another helicopter. This time it was a second version of the Zimcopter which also the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe would not let in the air. The Zimcopter 2.0 was once placed at the Mbudzi Roundabout before being moved to the University of Zimbabwe grounds.
This time, in 2023, the founding director of Taisek Engineering (PVT) Ltd Daniel Chingoma has built another Mini Zimcopter and he is doing a display for fundraising in Harare townships. The government of Zimbabwe will need to look into it and see if it can harness Chingoma’s engineering and technology interests.
