In a heartbreaking development, Zimbabwean musician and actor Terry Gee, popular for the hit song Ndezvemoyo, has died.
Terry’s manager, Edison December, confirmed the tragic news to H-Metro.
Terry Gee, born Tichaona Terrence Green, reportedly died from a cardiac arrest at Arundel Hospital in Harare today. Cardiac arrest is when the heart stops beating suddenly. The lack of blood flow to the brain and other organs can cause a person to lose consciousness, become disabled or die if not treated immediately.
Terry Gee had cerebral palsy and had been diagnosed with heart and lung disease.
On Monday, Terry’s mother, Violet Green, announced that the musician was critically ill and in hospital.
“Terry haasi kunzwa zvakanaka ari muhospital. Saka kune shamwari dzake dzinoda kumuona tinokumbirawo minamato yakasimba nekuti Terry ari paposition isina kumira zvakanaka.”
Members of the public decided to raise and donate money towards his hospital bills. Fans and well-wishers managed to raise US$250 yesterday for his brain scan.
Terry Gee was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth, and it affected his mobility. He used a wheelchair to move around all his life. Despite the medical condition he experienced, he rose to become a household name in the Zimbabwean entertainment industry.
Besides singing, Terry was also an actor. In 2003, he was on the ZBC TV drama series Zviri Mudzimba as one of the main actors.
Zimbabweans are expressing pain and heartbreak following news that Terry Gee has died.
