Yesterday, President Mnangagwa received a generous donation of 30 tonnes of mealie meal from two wholesale companies, Gain Cash and Carry and N Richards Group. This donation, which forms part of the companies’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, will greatly benefit underprivileged members of society.
President Mnangagwa has consistently encouraged private sector players to actively participate in the country’s development trajectory, moving beyond passive bystanders and making a real impact on poverty alleviation. He emphasizes the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility in uplifting communities and improving the lives of vulnerable groups.
Following the donation, Ms Leonet Mavura, the human resources director of Gain Cash and Carry, expressed the company’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of vulnerable groups in society. She stated that their motivation goes beyond profits and that they genuinely care about the well-being of the communities they serve. With 68 branches nationwide, Gain Cash and Carry, along with N Richards Group, hopes that the donated mealie meal will reach those who are less privileged in the areas they operate in.
President Mnangagwa continues to stress the significance of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives by private sector businesses. He urges these companies to invest in the communities they operate in, emphasizing the importance of employee welfare and supporting capacity-building programs. This message was reiterated during the ED Mnangagwa Summit, organized by the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) last year.
The donation of mealie meal from Gain Cash and Carry and N Richards Group is a commendable example of the private sector responding to the call for increased Corporate Social Responsibility. By actively engaging in initiatives that benefit vulnerable communities, these companies are contributing to the overall development and well-being of Zimbabwe as a whole.
