Bongeka Bidi, 41, was shot several times while she was parked in her silver Toyota Fortuner at the Strand municipal building in Cape Town on 8 January 2024.

It is alleged that the gunman walked up to her SUV, fired several shots through the driver’s window and then fled the scene. Bongeka was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.

Less than 24 hours after the murder, police arrested two men, aged 26 and 46, in connection with the murder. SAPS found the vehicle at a premises in Site C, Khayelitsha.

Bongeka worked for the Environmental Health Department at the City of Cape Town. Her murder comes just three months after her husband was shot and killed in Qumbu in the Eastern Cape in October 2023. Our hearts are broken.
