Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority Increases LPG Prices. The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced adjusted prices for Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) for February 2024, which will come into effect starting Monday.
These price adjustments are in accordance with the Petroleum (Liquid Petroleum Gas Pricing) Regulations 90 of 2021. As per the notice issued by ZERA, the new prices stand at US$1.86 or Z$20,290.5 per kilogram, representing an increase from the previous rates of US$1.85 or Z$11,744.78 in January. The rates for December and November were US$1.84 and Z$10,597, and US$1.85 or Z$10,597 per kilogram, respectively.
In line with regulations, it is mandatory for LPG operators to clearly display the prices at their outlets to facilitate informed consumer choices. Despite these adjustments, many Zimbabweans are facing challenges in affording LPG, a crucial energy source for cooking and heating, amidst the ongoing economic crisis and power shortages.
ZERA has mentioned that LPG operators have the flexibility to set prices below the stipulated rates if it benefits their business operations. Additionally, consumers are advised by ZERA to securely store LPG cylinders away from heat sources or flames to prevent accidents and ensure safe utilization of the fuel.
