Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, Zimbabwe’s largest referral hospital, is set to launch an immediate kangaroo mother care unit and a dedicated paediatric theatre to support premature babies and their mothers. The installation of these new facilities, valued at US$500,000 and US$130,000, respectively, is anticipated to have a substantial impact on reducing the nation’s infant mortality rate.
Presently, Zimbabwe’s infant mortality rate, reported by the United Nations Children’s Fund to be around 50 deaths per every 1,000 live births, underscores the critical need for enhanced care for newborns. By introducing specialized units tailored for the unique needs of premature infants and providing essential support for their mothers, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals aims to enhance healthcare provisions and outcomes for this vulnerable demographic.
This strategic investment signifies a proactive approach towards improving maternal and child health services and signifies a commitment to ensuring better health outcomes for Zimbabwe’s youngest citizens.
