Former Warriors forward Ovidy Karuru is set to make a return to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with Yadah, as club owner Walter Magaya aims to elevate the league’s stature by attracting notable players and increasing stadium attendance.
Yadah recently introduced marquee signing Khama Billiat, who chose the club over rival suitors Dynamos and Manica Diamonds. Karuru, who has previously played in Belgium and South Africa, is currently without a club but is on the verge of signing with Yadah as part of this initiative.
Magaya is confident that the inclusion of renowned figures in the Premier Soccer League will rejuvenate fan interest and lead to larger turnouts at matches, which have declined over time. The club secured Billiat on a one-year deal worth US$50,000, which also includes additional benefits such as a luxury vehicle.Speaking at Yadah’s home ground, Heart Stadium, Magaya expressed his vision for reinvigorating joy and enthusiasm in the league, focusing on revitalizing fan support for soccer in general. He emphasized the importance of reconnecting fans with the sport through the presence of seasoned football icons.
Magaya also revealed plans to enhance Heart Stadium’s facilities to accommodate up to 13,000 fans, with a target to potentially host PSL matches within five weeks of the season commencing. Additionally, he highlighted the potential transfer of Kuda Mahachi to Manica Diamonds, further underscoring the league’s efforts to attract experienced and skilled players back to Zimbabwean soccer.
