FlySafair’s flight FA212 from Johannesburg to Cape Town had to return to Johannesburg due to damage to one of its wheels during take-off.
Ground staff observed the damage after take-off, prompting the crew to decide on the return.
The aircraft entered a holding pattern to burn off fuel for a lighter landing.
Before landing, it made a low pass over OR Tambo for inspection, confirming that one rear wheel had detached.
Despite the faulty tire, the aircraft was designed for safe landing. Upon landing at OR Tambo, response vehicles greeted the plane as a precaution.
After inspection, passengers were transferred to a backup aircraft for their journey to Cape Town.
