In a bid to combat the growing menace of drug abuse, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has intensified its efforts, resulting in the conviction of 27 individuals for drug-related offenses. This move is part of the National Committee on the Elimination of Drugs and Substance Abuse’s initiative to name and shame drug barons and suppliers across the country.
According to a statement released by ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, the convicted individuals include:
– Tinotenda Muronzi (24), fined US$100 for possession of unregistered medicines
– Prudence Chinhoyi (29), sentenced to 14 months imprisonment for possession of dagga
– George Zacharia (44), fined US$100 or 3 months imprisonment for possession of unregistered medicines
– Hubert Murindagomo (42), sentenced to 9 months imprisonment for possession of crystal meth
– Victor Kurai Ngorima, sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for possession of unregistered medicines
– Leeroy Bruice Tungana (28), sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for possession of crystal meth
– Tafadzwa Sankulami (28), sentenced to 280 hours of community service for possession of crystal meth
– Sarah Gomwe (36), sentenced to 255 hours of community service for possession of 725 grams of dagga
– Tinashe Gangwa (28), sentenced to 10 months imprisonment for possession of crystal meth
– Thomas Moyo (41), sentenced to 175 hours of community service for possession of dagga
– Lwisani Dube (19), sentenced to 105 hours of community service for possession of dagga
– Tarisai Dhliwayo (28), sentenced to 19 months imprisonment for unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs
– Dean Michael, fined US$300 for possession of dagga
– Thamsanqa Moyo (23), sentenced to 24 months imprisonment for possession of 470 grams of dagga and 96 X 100mls Benylin cough syrup
– Caroline Muingayi (40), sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for possession of 738 grams of dagga
– Zororai Mapindure (40), fined US$400 for possession of 8 kilograms of dagga
– Netsai Nganhira (50), fined US$200 for possession of dagga
– Takesure Christ (28), sentenced to 17 months imprisonment for possession of crystal meth
– Stancilous Mushanga (29), fined US$100 for possession of unregistered medicines
– Melani Gutsire (37), fined US$150 for possession of unregistered medicines
– Nyasha Mpofu (24), sentenced to 10 months imprisonment for possession of crystal meth
– Nyasha Nyabunze (23), fined US$200 for possession of 0.56 grams of crystal meth
– Tatenda Vito (29), sentenced to 420 hours of community service for possession of dagga
– Tawanda Sibindi (18), sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for possession of crystal meth
– Newton Berejena (70), fined US$150 for possession of unregistered medicine
– Christopher Marambakurwa (42), sentenced to 30 months imprisonment for possession of crystal meth
