The Men’s IHF Trophy Zone 6 Africa took place in Harare, Zimbabwe, from May 6-11, 2024, with Zambia’s men’s youth team and Zimbabwe’s junior team emerging as champions. Both teams qualified for the IHF Trophy Continental Phase Africa later this year.
In the semi-final of the youth (U18) tournament, Zimbabwe faced a tough challenge against Mozambique, trailing 15-17 at half-time. However, they made a remarkable comeback in the second half, winning 41-34. Zambia, on the other hand, had an easier path to the final, defeating South Africa 36-10. In the gold-medal match, Zambia proved too strong for the home team, Zimbabwe, winning 37-27. Benjamin Daka and Rick Banda led the charge for Zambia, scoring 13 and 9 goals, respectively.
Mozambique secured the bronze medal with a convincing 52-25 win over South Africa, while Malawi ranked fifth after defeating Lesotho 50-25.
In the junior (U20) age category, the same two teams – Zambia and Zimbabwe – reached the final. Zambia beat Mozambique 23-15, while Zimbabwe dominated Lesotho 39-12 in the semi-finals. However, in the final, Zimbabwe emerged victorious, thanks to Thomas Shawn’s impressive 12 goals, winning 35-31 against Zambia.
Just like in the youth competition, Mozambique finished third after beating Lesotho 52-15, and Malawi took the fifth place following a 42-25 win against South Africa.
