Yadah Stars forward Khama Billiat is facing a legal battle to retain his house in Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, as creditors seek to repossess the property due to alleged non-payment of a bond agreement.
According to a report by City Press, a South African publication, Billiat has been taken to court by Emerging Markets Home Loans, which claims the former Ajax, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Kaizer Chiefs winger has failed to keep up with monthly instalments on the property.
The company has applied to the Pretoria High Court for an eviction order against five occupants who have been living in the house since Billiat’s return to Zimbabwe earlier this year. The occupants are allegedly unlawfully living at the premises, which is due to be auctioned in June.
Jillian Pedro, the lawyer representing Emerging Markets, confirmed the application for an eviction order, stating that the matter is ongoing and therefore she cannot comment further.
The sheriff, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that Billiat’s alleged failure to pay monthly instalments has prompted the finance service provider to put the house on auction to recoup the R1.7 million loan.
