Lesedi Molapisi, a citizen of Botswana, has been sentenced to death in Bangladesh for drug trafficking. The sentence was confirmed by President Mokgweetsi Masisi, who expressed his condolences to Molapisi’s family and offered support during this difficult time.
Molapisi was arrested on January 23, 2022, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in possession of over 3.145 kilograms of heroin. The Additional Metropolitan Session Judge, Court Number-8, Dhaka, Md Aminul Islam, handed down the death penalty on Monday, and the sentence was confirmed by the assistant bench officer, Milon, on Tuesday.
President Masisi stated, “We will provide support to the family of Lesedi Molapisi, who has been sentenced to death in Bangladesh. We will offer counseling and financial support to the family during this difficult time. We stand in solidarity with the family and will do our best to assist them.”
The case highlights the severe penalties for drug trafficking in Bangladesh, where the offense carries a mandatory death sentence. The incident has sparked concern and sympathy for Molapisi’s family, who are facing a tragic situation.
