The long-awaited renovations at the National Sports Stadium have hit a major snag as contractors have stopped work due to outstanding payments from the government. This development comes as a significant setback to efforts aimed at upgrading the stadium’s facilities, which are in dire need of improvement.

According to Minister of Sports Kirsty Coventry, who addressed Parliament on the matter, her attempts to secure funding from the Ministry of Finance have been unsuccessful so far. Despite her repeated efforts, no financial support has been forthcoming, leaving the contractors with no choice but to halt work on the project.

The National Sports Stadium, a critical infrastructure for sports and recreation in the country, has been in a state of disrepair for some time. The ongoing renovation project aimed to address these issues and provide a modern and safe facility for athletes and spectators alike. However, with the contractors now gone, the future of the project hangs in the balance.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has also expressed concerns about the situation, as the stadium’s closure has put additional pressure on other facilities in the country. With midweek fixtures scheduled, there are fears that the remaining stadiums may be overused, further complicating the situation.

The government’s failure to settle its dues has raised questions about its commitment to supporting sports development in the country. As the National Sports Stadium renovation project teeters on the brink of collapse, sports enthusiasts and stakeholders are left wondering about the future of sports infrastructure in the country.
