Zimbabwe Mourns the Loss of Veteran Opposition Politician Murisi Zwizwai

Harare, Zimbabwe – The political landscape of Zimbabwe is mourning the loss of a veteran opposition politician, Murisi Zwizwai, who passed away in the early hours of June 1, 2024, at a hospital in Harare.

Zwizwai, a founding member of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and later the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), had a illustrious career spanning over two decades. His passing has sent shockwaves throughout the country, with tributes pouring in from across the political divide.

According to friends and family, Zwizwai had been complaining of flu for several days before his admission to the hospital on Friday evening. His condition deteriorated rapidly, and he sadly succumbed to his illness at around 3 AM.

Zwizwai’s political career was marked by his affable and jovial nature, which earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and opponents alike. He served as the Member of Parliament for Kuwadzana and Harare Central, and was also the Deputy Minister of Media, Information, and Publicity during the Government of National Unity (GNU).

His passing has been met with an outpouring of grief from across the political spectrum. Former CCC President Nelson Chamisa, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesman George Charamba, and many others have paid tribute to Zwizwai’s legacy and commitment to the struggle for democracy and freedom in Zimbabwe.

Mourners have gathered at 8 Tayfield Road in Waterfalls to pay their respects to a man who dedicated his life to the service of his country. As Zimbabwe bids farewell to this veteran politician, his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched and the indelible mark he left on the country’s political landscape.
