The former Orlando Pirates midfielder believes VAR would help eliminate costly mistakes in the remaining matches of the WCQ.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Zimbabwe star Marshall Munetsi has called for the use of VAR during the remaining 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
Munetsi’s demand comes after the Warriors lost 2-0 to Lesotho at the Orlando Stadium on Friday.
The erstwhile Orlando Pirates midfielder, who was a captain against Lesotho, believes that some decisions made by the referee were unfair towards his side.

WHAT WAS SAID

“We need VAR, especially in African football, because even when you talk to the referee it’s a difficult thing. You try to ask him anything, the next thing he gives you a yellow card,” Munetsi said, per Soccer 24.
“For us it’s difficult, we always cry about the situation, but it is also unfortunate because it was not on our side.
“Situations like those happen in football and sometimes I think the referee has also to come and allow us to ask.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The loss to the Crocodiles left Zimbabwe at the bottom of Group C with two points from three matches.
Meanwhile, Lesotho are on top of the table ahead of Rwanda, Benin and South Africa, who all have four points. Nigeria are fifth with three points.

WHAT NEXT?

The upcoming clash against Bafana Bafana is a must win for the ex-Baroka player’s side. Zimbabwe will be aiming to move from the bottom and hoping that Nigeria loses against Benin.
The Warriors face an improved Hugo Broos-led team at the Free State Stadium on Tuesday, June 11.
