Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Felix Tapiwa Mhona has called for stricter road safety measures after a recent spate of fatal accidents. The accidents, which occurred in different parts of the country, claimed 26 lives and injured 56 others.
Investigations revealed that excessive speeding and the use of unroadworthy public service vehicles were the main causes of the accidents. Minister Mhona urged road users to strictly observe traffic laws and transport operators to join industry associations that promote self-regulation and compliance with road safety standards.
The government has pledged to strengthen legal and policy frameworks to improve road safety. Minister Mhona emphasized the need for a collaborative effort from all stakeholders to prevent further tragedies on the country’s roads.
He encouraged the public to make rational travel choices and prioritize safety.
