The violence was sparked by delays in the release of presidential election results, leading to protests by opposition supporters. The army was deployed to quell the protests, resulting in the deaths of at least six people and injuries to many more.

The incident was widely condemned as a human rights violation, with many calling for accountability and justice for the victims. However, despite numerous calls for accountability, no one has been held accountable for the violence, and the families of the victims are still seeking justice.
