Our #MCM today is Munashe Chirisa, a Zimbabwean comedian, actor, dancer, Radio, and TV presenter based in the United Kingdom. With a multifaceted career spanning various fields in the entertainment industry, Munashe has made a name for himself in the UK and beyond.
Born in Zimbabwe, Munashe relocated to the United Kingdom at the age of 17, where he would later pursue his passion for the arts. This move marked the beginning of an exciting journey that would see him excel in various fields.
Munashe’s professional Stand-Up comedy career began at university in 2013, where he was the resident comedian at the African Comedy Show. This platform featured some of the best comedians from Africa, and it marked the beginning of his journey in the entertainment industry.
Munashe has appeared in several UK theatre productions, including Dr. Faustus, Stop And Search, A Silk Of A Thousand Spiders, and Volpone. He has also scored big with a lead role in an Amazon Prime video TV Campaign for Marvellous Ms. Maisel, a notable achievement in his career. Additionally, he played the role of John in John, a film by Kat Anderson, and made history by becoming the first Zimbabwean actor to have a feature role in a Bollywood cinematic movie – Time To Dance.
Munashe’s most notable recent work came in the form of a hilarious mockumentary – Real Housemaids Of Zimbabwe, which spoofs the Real Housewives franchise. In this series, he writes, directs, and stars as multiple characters, showcasing his creativity and skill as a writer, director, and actor.
Munashe is also the Co-Founder of MADE IN ZWE, a creative media and lifestyle cultural community brand dedicated to promoting global Zimbabwean entertainment and culture. Through his work, Munashe is passionate about showcasing diverse genres and stories, believing that African writers shouldn’t be limited to “poverty porn” and exploring romance, sci-fi, fantasy, and more.
