The Warriors are set to take on Kenya in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations Group J qualifier this afternoon, but coach Michael Nees is facing a selection headache. With a talented squad at his disposal, Nees is struggling to choose his starting eleven.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Nees admitted that selecting the first eleven is a difficult task. “Everybody is giving their best at training, showing great attitude, but only eleven can start,” he said.
The German national hinted that foreign-based players may get preference, citing the logic of not bringing European players to sit on the bench. However, local-based players Khama Billiat, Walter Musona, and Godknows Murwira are likely to start.
Nees also expressed concern about the threat posed by Kenya, who have been working together under their coach for some time. “We analyzed and studied them, and we can predict how they will play,” he said.
The Warriors’ probable starting XI includes Washington Arubi, Munashe Garananga, Godknows Murwira, Gerald Takwara, Jordan Zemura, Marshall Munetsi, Andy Rinomhota, Walter Musona, Khama Billiat, Tawanda Chirewa, and Prince Dube.
The match kicks off at 3 pm Zimbabwe time at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
