Our #WCW today is Nkosilesisa Kwanele Ncube, a trailblazing film and television writer, director, journalist, and published author from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
Born and raised in Bulawayo, Nkosilesisa’s passion for storytelling began at a young age. She pursued her higher education at Midlands State University, where she honed her writing skills and laid the foundation for her future success.
Nkosilesisa’s career took off after completing the prestigious MultiChoice Talent Factory and New York Film Academy programs. She made a name for herself as a talented writer, penning scripts for popular TV shows and films, including DSTV Zambezi Magic’s Jaiva S’bone, The Stealers, and Another Wedding?. Her work on the Zambian television drama Ubuntu earned her recognition as a skilled writer.
In 2021, Nkosilesisa made her directorial debut with the award-nominated short film Figure It Out, which premiered on Showmax. Her latest project, Bazukuru, is the first Zimbabwean series to stream on Amazon Prime, solidifying her position as a pioneer in the industry.
Beyond her work in film and television, Nkosilesisa is a dedicated journalist and published author. She has written for the Sunday News and edited Urban Culxure magazine. Her debut novel, Drafts: 100 Letters I Will Never Send, showcases her literary talent, and she has contributed to several anthologies.
Nkosilesisa is also passionate about film literacy and has shared her expertise through talks and workshops at various festivals and organizations. Her commitment to empowering the next generation of storytellers is inspiring.
In 2022, Nkosilesisa was selected for the prestigious Mandela Washington Fellowship, a testament to her leadership and innovative spirit. This fellowship recognizes exceptional young leaders from Africa, and Nkosilesisa’s inclusion is a nod to her remarkable achievements.
