The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has summoned Highlanders FC to appear before its Disciplinary Committee (DC) following the abandonment of their Chibuku Super Cup quarterfinal match against Simba Bhora last weekend.
The match, held at Wadzanayi Stadium on September 22, was prematurely ended in the 75th minute with the score tied 0-0. Highlanders players and technical staff stormed off the field in protest over a penalty awarded to Simba Bhora. The referee deemed Tinashe Balakasi’s tackle inside the box a foul, but Highlanders disputed the call, arguing it occurred outside the box.
The PSL received official match reports from both clubs and the match officials, prompting the summons. Highlanders FC is accused of breaching Chibuku Super Cup Rules and Regulations, specifically:
Order 8.8: Causing the abandonment of a Chibuku Super Cup match.
The hearing is scheduled for October 1, 2024, at 5:30 pm at the PSL offices. The outcome will determine the fate of Highlanders FC in the competition.
This development adds uncertainty to Highlanders’ Chibuku Super Cup campaign, leaving fans anxiously awaiting the disciplinary committee’s decision.
