Rising sungura star Mark Ngwazi’s highly anticipated ‘Huzukwende’ album tour in South Africa ended in disappointment, as low turnout marred his weekend shows. The Johannesburg leg of the tour, held at Newtown Music Factory, drew a meager crowd of less than 100 attendees.

Unfortunately, the Pretoria event fared even worse, with an even smaller audience in attendance. Ngwazi’s fans and music enthusiasts had high expectations for the tour, given the buzz surrounding his latest album. However, the dismal attendance raises concerns about the artist’s popularity beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.

Industry insiders cite factors such as inadequate promotion, competition from established artists, and limited market penetration as possible reasons for the poor turnout. “It’s challenging for emerging artists to break into new markets without strategic planning and effective promotion,” said one music industry expert.

Despite this setback, Mark Ngwazi remains a talented and promising figure in Zimbabwe’s music scene. His team will likely reassess strategies to boost his regional appeal and attract larger audiences.
