Our #MCM is Musawenkosi Saruro, known to many as Musa, is a multi-talented actor, director, and teacher hailing from Harare, Zimbabwe. With a career that began at the tender age of six, Musa has grown from performing in commercials to becoming a prominent figure in the Zimbabwean theatre scene.
Beyond his work as an actor and director, Musa serves as the Director of the National Institute of Allied Arts Speech and Drama Festival. This prestigious role allows him to create a platform for schools across Zimbabwe to showcase their theatrical talents in front of an international adjudicator, promoting the growth of young performers in the country.
Musa’s impressive stage credits include acclaimed productions such as Absurd Person Singular, Play That Goes Wrong, and the recent Being Otherwise, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. His on-screen presence is just as notable, with roles in popular productions like Zambezi News and Mukoma Bruce by King Kandoro.
His current play in the captivating new adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Being Otherwise, running at Reps Theatre in Harare, Zimbabwe, is directed by Kevin Hanssen, designed by Dunja Pantic, and produced by Just Now Productions. The talented cast, including Saruro, Hanssen, and McLaren, delivers a fresh yet familiar take on this timeless tale of betrayal, power, and inner conflict.
