Zimbabwean National Sentenced for Illegal Residency in Northern Cyprus

Patience Shingirai Nyamande, a 27-year-old Zimbabwean national, has been sentenced to prison for residing illegally in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for two years.

Nyamande was arrested on October 15, 2024, during an immigration check in the Küçükkaymaklı district of Nicosia, revealing she had been living in the TRNC illegally since March 26, 2022, totaling 934 days.

During the court hearing, police officer Nevzat Gün presented the facts of the case, stating that Nyamande was arrested in the act of committing the crime. Officer Gün argued that if released, Nyamande would likely continue to commit the same offense, requesting her imprisonment for up to 20 days.

The defendant expressed her desire to return to Zimbabwe, but Judge Nuray Necdet ordered her imprisonment for the requested period.
