Two Bulawayo women, Nokuthula Sibanda (63) and Nothando Ndlovu (48), have been arrested for running a fraudulent job placement scheme targeting UK job seekers. The duo allegedly defrauded eight individuals of US$47,811 between December 2022 and November 2024. Posing as job placement agents, they collected substantial fees from victims but failed to deliver on promised employment opportunities.
How the Scam Worked
The suspects misrepresented themselves as experts in facilitating UK job placements, convincing victims to pay significant fees. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrests, stating that the women operated undetected for over two years. This case follows a growing trend of job seekers being duped by scammers, including a separate incident where a couple was arrested for defrauding 46 victims of US$134,552.
Crackdown on Job Scams
The ZRP has urged caution among job seekers, warning of the risks of fraudulent schemes. The arrests serve as a reminder to verify the authenticity of job placement services and report suspicious activities. As investigations continue, authorities aim to bring perpetrators to justice and protect vulnerable individuals from falling prey to such scams.
