Zimbabwe has secured a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Kenya in their Group J clash on Friday. The Warriors garnered nine points, finishing second in the group, to book their ticket to next year’s tournament.
Tawanda Maswanhise scored on his full debut for Zimbabwe, netting in the 32nd minute to give the Warriors the lead. However, Kenya’s Jonah Ayunga equalized five minutes into the second half, capitalizing on a defensive mistake by Gerald Takwara. Despite creating chances, neither team could find a winner, settling for a share of the spoils.
The result eliminated Kenya from contention, condemning them to a third-place finish in Group J. Zimbabwe will face already-qualified Cameroon in their final group match on Tuesday, kicking off at 3 pm CAT. With their Afcon berth secured, the Warriors will look to finish their campaign on a high note.
