Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim leader Jameson Timba and 34 of his supporters have been convicted of participating in an unlawful gathering. The group was arrested in June and has been in custody since then. They were also charged with disorderly conduct, but were acquitted of that charge.
Magistrate Collet Ncube of the Harare Circuit Court delivered the verdict, stating that the gathering posed a significant risk of breaching the peace. Ncube expressed skepticism over Timba’s claim that he was unaware of the situation’s developments, emphasizing that Timba facilitated the gathering at his premises. Twenty-eight other defendants were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
