A Harare man, Nihipalakar Muyaya, 22, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his grandmother, Agnes Duri, 70, over a Christmas present dispute. The incident occurred on December 26, 2024, at around 1 a.m. in Kuwadzana 7, Harare. According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Muyaya brutally assaulted his grandmother with clenched fists and booted feet after she failed to give him a Christmas present.
Agnes Duri was found lying lifeless in her room with blood coming out of her mouth and ears. The police have since arrested Muyaya in connection with the murder. This incident is part of a disturbing trend of violence during the festive season in Zimbabwe.
The police attribute these incidents to disputes at beer-drinking venues, sporting events, and conflicts during family or community gatherings. Other factors include attacks by unknown suspects, settling of scores, and fighting over girlfriends. The police are urging citizens to exercise restraint and resolve disputes peacefully to prevent further loss of life.
