Prophet Walter Magaya has taken legal action against the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee after being disqualified from running in the upcoming ZIFA presidential elections. Magaya, who owns Yadah FC and leads PHD Ministries, was disqualified due to pending court cases and a prior conviction.

Magaya has filed a High Court application arguing against his ineligibility. The ZIFA Normalisation Committee confirmed receiving Magaya’s application, expressing disappointment that he chose to pursue the matter in the High Court instead of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Another disqualified candidate, Benjani Mwaruwari, had taken the latter route.

Despite the legal challenge, the ZIFA Normalisation Committee stated that the elections would proceed as planned on 25 January in Harare. The outcome of Magaya’s High Court application remains to be seen, and it is unclear how this will impact the elections.
