A labour dispute turned violent when Kholwani Dube, a 38-year-old Zimbabwean, stabbed a Chinese national in the leg with an okapi knife. According to police reports, the Chinese national had pointed a firearm at Dube prior to the stabbing. Both individuals are facing criminal charges.
In a separate incident, 20-year-old Mthahandazo Sibanda was shot with a 9mm Derva Pistol by a Chinese national while allegedly stealing gold dump at Binyup 5 Mine in Filabusi. The shooting occurred on January 22, 2025. Police have arrested the Chinese national in connection with the incident.
These violent clashes highlight the growing tensions between Zimbabwean nationals and Chinese nationals in the country. The incidents are currently under investigation, and both parties are facing charges.
