A significant milestone has been achieved in the fight against drug trafficking, thanks to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo. On February 7, 2025, a 35-year-old male suspect was arrested in Northam, Waterberg District, for trafficking a substantial quantity of dagga worth over R15 million. The successful operation was the result of intelligence-driven efforts, which led to the interception of a truck transporting the illegal substance, believed to be coming from or into Zimbabwe.
The operation is a testament to the SAPS’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and protecting the community from the devastating effects of illicit drugs. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the meticulous investigation and highlighted the significance of this achievement in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking.
The suspect has been charged with dealing in drugs and is expected to appear before the Northam Magistrate’s Court. This breakthrough serves as a reminder of the SAPS’s dedication to keeping communities safe and bringing perpetrators to justice.
