Mudslides in South Africa: KwaZulu-Natal Rain Tragedy Claims 3 Lives

Heavy rains in KwaZulu-Natal have resulted in the deaths of three people in the KwaMakutha area, south of Durban. The victims were buried under sand and rubble after mudslides destroyed their homes. Emergency workers responded to the scene, but were only able to recover one of the bodies.

The mudslides were caused by persistent rains that have been battering the province. The South African Weather Service has warned that the rains will continue, issuing an orange level 5 weather warning for the area. Residents have been advised to stay clear of affected areas, including Foreshore Drive in The Bluff, where a mudslide trapped vehicles.

The tragedy has sparked an outpouring of condolences on social media, with many expressing sadness and concern for the affected families. The incident has also raised concerns about the province’s stormwater drainage systems, with some calling for the municipality to take action to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
