A dramatic scene unfolded in the early hours yesterday near Jangano, just outside Kadoma’s central business district, as a National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) goods train derailed. Eyewitnesses described the moment the train veered off the tracks, crashing into a waterlogged section of the railway. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Initial reports suggest that heavy rainfall in recent days may have weakened the ground beneath the tracks, potentially contributing to the derailment. Authorities and NRZ officials are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
The derailment has raised concerns about the state of Zimbabwe’s rail infrastructure, particularly in light of the recent heavy rains.
