The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has revamped its recruitment process, now prioritizing qualifications over physical stamina. This significant shift marks a departure from the previous emphasis on physical attributes, such as height and stamina requirements.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has commended the ZRP for this upgrade, acknowledging the need for a more educated and skilled police force in modern policing. To achieve this, the ZRP has introduced a comprehensive training program that includes academic and practical courses, such as criminal law, police duties, and human rights .

This new approach aims to equip police officers with the necessary knowledge and skills to tackle complex policing challenges. The ZRP’s recruitment process now focuses on attracting candidates with strong educational backgrounds, rather than solely physical abilities.
