The government has embarked on an ambitious US$37 million Youth Farm Mechanization Drive, aimed at empowering young farmers and boosting the agricultural sector. Through the Ministry of Agriculture, the initiative will distribute 72 tractors and 2 combine harvesters to the Youth Bank, which will then allocate the equipment to 72 clusters across the country. This move is expected to cultivate 77,000 hectares of land annually, significantly enhancing the country’s agricultural productivity.
To complement this initiative, the government has also announced a US$10 million project to set up irrigation systems for Youth Business Units. This will ensure that young farmers have access to reliable water sources, enabling them to maximize their crop yields and improve their overall livelihoods. By investing in farm mechanization and irrigation, the government is delivering on its promise to empower young farmers and drive growth in the agricultural sector.
The Youth Farm Mechanization Drive is a significant step towards modernizing the country’s agricultural sector and promoting youth involvement in farming. By providing young farmers with access to modern equipment and technology, the government is helping to increase efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness in the sector. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s food security, economic growth, and job creation.
