ZIFA, Zimbabwe’s football governing body, has launched the “Roots & Dreams” programme to connect and recruit football talent from the Zimbabwean diaspora in the UK, aiming to strengthen the national team. The initiative, introduced by ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi and national coach Michael Nees during events in London and Birmingham, provides young players of Zimbabwean descent with direct access to ZIFA officials, insights into national team pathways, and opportunities to represent Zimbabwe internationally.
The embassy has pledged support, warning families to avoid fraudulent agents and emphasizing that selection for the national team requires merit, not just holding a passport. ZIFA is also seeking collaboration with the English FA to improve talent development and create clear pathways for diaspora youth, marking a shift towards greater transparency, integrity, and inclusivity in Zimbabwean football
