This week’s Throwback Thursday feature takes us back to the 1990s, when Zimbabwean football was on the rise. One of the stars of Reinhard Fabisch’s powerful “Dream Team” was a player known as “The Bully”. With a career spanning multiple countries and clubs, he left an indelible mark on the beautiful game.
“The Bully” played for Zimbabwe Saints, Bonner Sport Club (Germany), Vorwart Styer (Austria), Bristol City (England), SC Zug (Switzerland), Shelbourne FC (Republic of Ireland), Mamelodi Sundowns, and Wits University (South Africa). However, it’s his time with the Zimbabwe national team, the Warriors, that he’s most remembered for. Capped 38 times for Zimbabwe, he played for the team for a decade and was instrumental in their quest for glory.
Who can forget the goal he scored in the 7th minute of the 1994 Afcon qualifier against Zambia? Zimbabwe was within minutes of making their first-ever qualification to the Afcon, but Kalusha Bwalya’s equalizer for Zambia broke the hearts of millions of Zimbabweans. Despite the setback, “The Bully” remains a beloved figure in Zimbabwean football, and his contributions to the sport will never be forgotten.
