Ugandan Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has tragically passed away at a Kenyan hospital, where she was receiving treatment for severe burns covering 80% of her body. The 33-year-old athlete succumbed to her injuries following a horrific attack by her partner, Dickson Ndiema.

According to Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Jeremiah ole Kosiom, Ndiema poured petrol on Cheptegei and set her ablaze during a disagreement on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Ndiema also suffered burns and was being treated at the same hospital.

Cheptegei’s death has sent shockwaves through the athletic community and beyond, with many mourning the loss of a talented and promising young athlete.
