Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe, son of the late former President Robert Mugabe, has sparked controversy once again after failing to appear in court. The Beitbridge Magistrate Court had scheduled a hearing for Mugabe, who is facing charges of disorderly conduct and possession of a prohibited knife. However, his absence prompted Magistrate Vavariro Gavi to issue a warrant for his arrest.
According to reports, Mugabe’s troubles began on August 31, 2024, when his vehicle, driven by friend Irvin Molokoza, a South African national, was stopped at the Bubi Security Roadblock in Beitbridge. When asked to produce his passport and vehicle registration documents, Mugabe allegedly became aggressive, shouting at the police officer and brandishing a small brown knife. This incident led to the charges being filed against him.
Mugabe’s lawyer, Muchiwande Sithole, claimed that his client skipped court due to undergoing surgery in Harare. However, this explanation has not sufficed, and the authorities are now seeking to apprehend him.
