A devastating incident unfolded at Baobab Gardens in Highlands, Zimbabwe, on September 29, 2024, when 21-year-old Wayne Kudakwashe Gembo from Glenview 7 was found dead in a shallow pool. The previous night, Wayne had attended a reunion party with his high school friends at a rented house, celebrating and reconnecting with old classmates. However, the excitement and joy of the evening took a tragic turn.
According to eyewitnesses, Wayne was last seen partying with his friends, but when they awoke the next morning, he was nowhere to be found. A search party was launched, but unfortunately, his body was only discovered hours later in the pool. The property’s caretaker, Blessing Jonasi, made the shocking discovery while cleaning the pool. “I woke up to clean the yard and didn’t notice anything unusual. When I returned to clean the pool again, I saw a body,” Jonasi recounted.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that they are investigating a suspected case of drowning. “The ZRP is investigating a suspected case of drowning in which Wayne Kudakwashe Gembo (21) was found dead in a swimming pool at a house along Tedder Road, Highlands,” a police statement read. Wayne’s body was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
