Alex Mashamhanda’s life story is one of resilience and determination. Born and raised in Chivi, he began his educational journey at St Simon Zhara Primary and later attended Berejena Mission for his secondary level education. He furthered his studies in Local Governance at Domboshava Training Centre, laying the foundation for his future success.

Mashamhanda’s career commenced in banking, initially at Barclays Bank and later at Zimbank, where he rose to become a branch manager. However, his entrepreneurial spirit soon led him to launch M&H Educational Supplies in the 1990s. After leaving Zimbank, he focused full-time on growing M&H Educational Supplies, which eventually blossomed into Mashwede Holdings.

Today, Mashwede Holdings is a force to be reckoned with, boasting an impressive portfolio of businesses. The company’s headquarters, Mashwede Towers, stands tall in Arcadia, a symbol of Mashamhanda’s vision and perseverance. He also serves as a Trustee at Falcon Golf Club in Hatfield, a place he frequents every weekend.

Beyond his business accomplishments, Mashamhanda is dedicated to giving back to his community. In Sese, he has bankrolled initiatives such as electrification, irrigation, and scholarship programs. Notably, Mashwede Holdings availed US$150,000 to connect water and electricity to three schools: Danhamombe High, St Simon Zhara Primary, and Chikore Primary. Additionally, they connected water to over 20 houses in his rural home area.

Mashamhanda’s generosity extends beyond his community. He has also provided scholarships to deserving students, including a recent recipient from Chitungwiza who was struggling with university finances.

A notable aspect of Mashamhanda’s success is his commitment to family involvement. Two of his sons currently serve as directors at Mashwede Holdings, ensuring a lasting legacy. This trans-generational approach has allowed him to instill his values and business acumen in the next generation.

Despite his success, Mashamhanda remains humble and grounded. He is often spotted driving a Honda Fit, a testament to his frugal nature. When asked about his modest vehicle, he quipped, “A car is a mode of transport, not a tool for showing off.”
