Prophet Walter Magaya and Gift Banda, a former Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) vice president, are at the center of a brewing bribery scandal. The duo allegedly organized a secret meeting with ZIFA councillors from the Southern Region to manipulate the organization’s constitution. Their goal: remove the requirement of five O-levels, a qualification Magaya reportedly lacks.
The meeting took place on October 10, 2024, at Number 10 Park Road, Suburbs, Bulawayo. Attendees included prominent figures in Zimbabwean football, such as Wellington Mpandare, Eddi Ndodana Masuku, and Francis Ntutha. Magaya and Banda allegedly sought support for their election to ZIFA’s top positions, with Magaya eyeing the presidency and Banda vying for vice presidency.
The alleged bribery attempt has sparked concerns about corruption within ZIFA. The organization’s electoral process is now under scrutiny, and fans are calling for transparency and accountability. If found guilty, Magaya and Banda face severe consequences, including bans from football-related activities and potential legal action.
