Botswana has unveiled its first locally assembled electric vehicles, marking a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards embracing renewable energy and reducing its carbon footprint.
The partnership between the Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI) and two Chinese vehicle manufacturing companies, Skywell and CHTC Kinwin, has enabled the assembly of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and electric buses in Botswana.
Botswana’s President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, commended BITRI for choosing the right partners, emphasizing the importance of e-mobility for the economy and environment. This initiative promotes renewable energy in the automobile industry and enhances the country’s knowledge economy.
This development demonstrates Botswana’s commitment to sustainable development and its determination to stay ahead in the global shift towards e-mobility, paving the way for a cleaner, greener transportation system.
