Harare Municipal Police arrested a vendor, Bornwell Dirwai, at the intersection of Rezende and Robert Mugabe streets for selling fake and repackaged groceries. The arrest comes as a crackdown on unscrupulous traders who are putting the health of consumers at risk.
Upon inspection, most of the groceries were found to be expired, highlighting the dangers of purchasing from unlicensed vendors. The repackaged products included milk packaged in South African branded containers, margarine in Buttercup margarine containers, and Zimgold packages. This blatant disregard for consumer safety raises concerns about the prevalence of such practices in the market.
The arrest serves as a warning to other vendors engaging in similar activities. The Harare Municipal Police has vowed to continue monitoring the market and taking action against those found selling fake or expired products. Consumers are also advised to be vigilant when purchasing groceries and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
