Did you know that the Zimbabwean dollar was introduced in 1981, replacing the Rhodesian dollar? At its introduction, the Zimbabwean dollar was pegged at a 1:1 ratio with the British pound sterling.

The design of the Zimbabwean dollar banknotes is also noteworthy. The main illustration on the obverse of the banknotes featured the Chiremba Balancing Rocks in Epworth, Harare. These rocks were used as a metaphor to demonstrate the importance of balancing development and environmental preservation.
