Born and raised in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Indigo Saint’s musical journey began in 2010. However, it was during his time at the University of Pretoria in 2011 that he was exposed to the hip-hop and cypher scenes, which significantly influenced his style and nurtured his passion for music.
Indigo Saint’s talent and dedication have earned him numerous accolades, including three Zim Hip Hop Awards. In 2016, he was listed second on the prestigious MTV Base Top 10 Hottest MC list, a testament to his growing reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the African hip-hop scene.
One of Indigo Saint’s most notable projects is his double EP, “The Blunt EPs,” released in 2016. This deeply personal and emotional project was inspired by the tragic loss of his friend to suicide in 2015. Through this project, Indigo Saint aimed to start and continue conversations around mental health issues in Zimbabwe, using his music as a powerful tool for awareness and healing.
Indigo Saint’s commitment to mental health awareness extends beyond his music. He is the founder and developer of XOXA, Zimbabwe’s first free online counseling platform. This innovative initiative was created and funded through the sale of his music and Asila Mali Apparel, demonstrating Indigo Saint’s dedication to using his platform for positive change.
In addition to his work in mental health awareness, Indigo Saint is also passionate about supporting and developing the underground music scene in Zimbabwe. Through Cottage #47, a hub he founded, Indigo Saint provides opportunities for artists to record in studios and perform at events, helping to nurture and promote emerging talent.
Indigo Saint’s story is one of passion, resilience, and dedication. From his early days in Bulawayo to his current status as a respected and award-winning rapper, he has remained true to his art and his values. As a talented musician, advocate, and entrepreneur, Indigo Saint is an inspiration to many, and his influence is sure to be felt for years to come.
