Detective Tafadzwa Chidawa, also known as Khedha, broke down in tears while testifying in his defense case on Friday, prompting Chief Magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti Guwuriro to adjourn the matter until today. Chidawa is currently in remand prison after his bail was cancelled due to his failure to appear in court for over a year.
Chidawa is being charged alongside his accomplices Paradza Passmore Matubu, Perseverance Chisango, Malvern Mutanda, and Francis Takura. However, Mutanda and Takura are currently at large. The complainant in the case is Melody Matanhire. Chidawa and his accomplices had previously defaulted on their court appearance in January last year after their application for discharge was dismissed by the trial magistrate.
According to the allegations, Chidawa’s accomplice, Mutanda, had informed his lover, Melody Matanhire, that he was in possession of approximately US$100,000 in soiled money. Mutanda claimed that the cleaning process would require at least US$20,000 in clean bills, which would be mixed with the soiled money and some chemicals. The case is ongoing, with Chidawa’s emotional breakdown in court adding a dramatic twist to the proceedings.
