A Zimbabwean man, Absolom Sigiyo, 41, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison in the UK alongside his two accomplices, Romauld Houphouet, 37, and Jacek Brzozowski, 35. The trio was found guilty of child sex abuse offenses committed against two 15-year-old girls in Rotherham between 2011 and 2012.
The victims, who lived in a local authority children’s home, were befriended by the defendants who gained their trust by offering them alcohol and gifts. This trust was tragically exploited, leading to repeated sexual abuse. In a disturbing twist, Sigiyo attempted to intimidate one of the victims into withdrawing her police complaint against him in 2019.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) prosecuted the case after an investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA) as part of Operation Stovewood. Martin McRobb, a Specialist Prosecutor for the CPS, praised the victims for their courage in coming forward and giving evidence against the defendants. The CPS will continue to work closely with law enforcement partners to support victims of child sexual abuse and pursue justice.
