Four men from Chitungwiza appeared in court on Wednesday, charged with malicious damage to property after allegedly trying to burn down properties owned by prominent Zimbabwean businessmen, including Wicknell Chivayo, Kudakwashe Tagwirei, and John Mangudya. The incidents occurred on March 28, 2025, with the four men allegedly driving vehicles to the targeted locations and setting them on fire.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the men intentionally targeted the offices of the businessmen, with the aim of destroying the premises. The fires damaged property, including a lighting system and a signpost, but fortunately, no major damage was reported. The incidents came hours after war veteran Blessed Geza publicly named Tagwirei and Chivayo as “criminals around the president.”
The four suspects, Last Matarutse, 40, Abel Jobe, 47, Kizito Chinhanga, 40, and Thomas Chanetsa, were remanded in custody after being advised to seek bail at the High Court. The case has sparked concerns about the safety and security of businesses in Zimbabwe, particularly those linked to prominent figures.
